    From my experience at bedside in acute care no certification is of importance. If it’s something like CCRN or other national certification all it can do is give you a little extra bucks in your paycheck. Outside of that it’s mostly so the hospitals can say I have this many certified nurses in critical care/ ER etc… and they are expensive. Ironically, as in MSN in education, that is less important in the hospital and you don’t get paid extra which I think it’s kind of silly. I feel certifications, are more important when you decide that you want to move out of hospital facilities and acute care to your own practice because it shows that you put in the work. But in order to practice like say holistic nursing, I don’t need a holistic nursing certification, because in nursing we’re supposed to be practicing holism, that’s the whole science of Nursing .

    Just found you… I have practiced holistic nursing since my first day. I have certifications in hypnotherapy, reiki, hands on healing and more. I’ve studied herbal medicine for 20+ yrs. You are correct not every nurse practices holistic nursing but they do practice some aspects. I believe it’s because as soon as we enter facilities we practice with the confined policies. Also many practices are still considered “quackery “ I was told that once by a physician even though I used hypnosis on his patient to reduce the anxiety and hyper emesis episodes during placement…of duodenum tube ..reglan didn’t help 😏( pt agreed to hypnosis after hours of attempting and medications). It wasn’t until two yrs ago our hospital added guided imagery to pain management interventions even though we have used them for years… using rapport is another holistic approach we use to help patients create a nurse patient relationship. Talking and listening is powerful skill we learn as nurses - therapeutic communication it was called in my time as a student nurse. I remember how excited I’d get when we talked about alternative methods but in hospitals the evidence based practice did not support many of that and for the most part using was quite taboo. Over time I created my own tool box of mini charts for acupressure, portable LLL device, a small tens battery operated, battery operated acupressure machine, essential oils, small hypnosis scrips to read in case I come across tough hypnosis subject 😉 Integrative nursing is the new buzz word for this practice.

I'm needing to heal my leg of what it looks like a big blister that's been popped, my leg is red from about 4 inches below my knee to my ankle , what happened to bring it to this was to much salt and it caused little pockets of blisters that I popped and let drain , what is the herb or herbs I need to be taking to heal my leg ?

    I found your page when looking for why I needed to sit for HNB-BC exam when I have practiced Holistic Nursing for 26 yrs. I got my A.A.S. RN degree in the dark days when patients hid their herbal preparations from their doctors and I, because they would be severely reprimanded and even throw out of a doctor's practice for continuing their cultural treatments. I taught my patients that they had rights and to be honest with their health care team way before it was called Cultural Competence and Cultural Sensitivity. It hurts me to my core that I still see patients encounter poor treatment due to Cultural Biases 26 years later. I absolutely support you living in your Holistic Nursing truth without a certification exam to validate the work us True Holistic Nurses are passionate about and doing in the community. I am now a BSN-RN trained in a few holistic modalities and I have been considering certification for a few years now. I took the practice test and got a 65% without studying at all! Have you sat for certification? Do we really need it?

    Hi thank you for this your explanation is the best iv come across.. I'm new and trying to make my own products.. I'm so confused by aqueous tinctures.. I'm wanting to add it to distilled white vinegar eco cleaner.. using herbs with antimicrobial/antibacterial properties for add strength and also to make it go further.. how long can aqueous tinctures /water extract keep for if no digesting and if digesting ( would also like to try make a silver tincture - using colloidal silver and aqueous extracts method) x

    • @witchnursesteph
      @witchnursesteph Год назад

      Hi Jo! To answer your question- tinctures last an indefinite amount of time if they have at least 40% alcohol content. Another option you could explore is infusing the white vinegar with whatever herb you're working with (I've done this with rosemary and thyme for cleaning purposes). I'm not sure that you would get high enough of a concentration for your cleaner to benefit if you were just using tinctures unless it's a significant portion of your cleaner. Great questions!

      Not giving medications at some point is a challenge, but I understand how you feel. My perspective is this: there's a place for all medicine. Are pharmaceuticals overprescribed (especially in our elderly patients)? YES. Does epinephrine (and insulin, and lorazepam, and and and...) save lives?? Also YES. Becoming a nurse helped me respect when it's appropriate to use ALL of the tools in my toolbox.

    Hi Stephanie, Currently RN (10 years experience) looking to move into Health Coach Nurse vs Holistic Nurse. The area I think I would be strongest in is teaching meditation practices to help reduce anxiety. From your experience and the little bit of info I provided, which one do you think might be better fit for me. Thank you, Carl

    • @witchnursesteph
      @witchnursesteph Год назад

      Hi Carl! I think both have their place (and you can do both!)... it just depends on how you want your practice to look. Do you want to work one-on-one with clients towards an outcome? Or do you want to facilitate classes, courses, events, etc.? You can do both things with either specialty, and there's a lot of cross over. I do know that the Nurse Coach path is much more intensive, and I've chosen the Holistic Nursing path first (but I've also taken coaching clients without being certified because there really isn't a lot of oversight or requirements to do so). I know that's not very helpful, but I'm glad you asked!

    • @witchnursesteph

      Hi Krysten! It really just depends. Nursing is incredible for the stability it provides in my life and for my family, the experience with direct patient care it's given me, and it's completely informed my practice as a healer. Are there other ways of serving clients? Of course. Is the healthcare industry a beast to work in, especially for those of us with differing values? Absolutely. It's not for the faint of heart but I'm so glad I did it. Let me know how I can help guide you in any other way!

      @@witchnursesteph Thank you so much for the honest feedback! I've thought a lot about it over the last few weeks, and I've decided to go the coaching route instead. But I still have so much love and immense respect for nursing! And I still plan to consume content directed toward holistic nurses 😉💚
